How To Hygge (Hoo-gah) in November
November, it’s a funny unloved month isn’t it? Squished miserably between all the spooky fun of October when the cooler weather was still a novelty and we were enjoying all the crisp glorious autumn walks and mellow sunshine and the celebrations and downright decadence of December.
After the excitement of bonfire night has fizzled out what are we left with? A long cold month with dark evenings and an even longer winter ahead of us.
Well that’s a cheery start to this weeks blog isn’t it?! The only thing to do is embrace it! I love getting cosy all year round and was practicing the Danish idea of Hygge (pronounced hoo-gah in case you wondered) long before it became a popular lifestyle trend. My home is filled with candles, snuggly blankets, sheepskins and cosy Hygge corners.
Hygge in case you’ve been living under a (not particularly snuggly) rock is the Danish concept of cosy contentment and enjoying the simple things in life. The Danes are consistently at the top of the list of the World’s happiest countries despite having notoriously long and bleak winters.
Embracing the dark nights and cold weather by cocooning ourselves in comfort and hunkering down is the way to go so I’ve gathered a selection of my favourite things to buy right now to make your home a wonderfully snug and comforting retreat.
So batten down the hatches, light that scented candle, pop the kettle on and snuggle down, happy Hygge time!
